EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU DO, I PROMISE YOU, YOU DON’T. Mara is a totally unreliable narrator in the first two books (possibly less so in the last one) and that’s part of what makes it so awesome. One of the best things about this series is that you have no idea half the time what’s even happening. If you haven’t read the first two, GO AWAY. It’s the way Michelle Hodkin has taken this story and twisted and pulled to make it her own, terrifying tale. In my opinion, it’s the execution that makes it great. Teenagers with weird powers and a witty bad boy and who knows what’s even happening and why they’re like this. And it’s not like the premise is even all that original. Why do I do this to myself? This series is terrifying. Everything about it messes with your head and tears at your heart and literally keeps you up at night shaking in terror. That’s not a real thing people say, is it? But those are my feelings. I finished this book a couple of hours ago, and I’m still reeling. (For those of you who have read the book, click HERE for a Series Wrap Saturday with all my thoughts.) I don’t know how our story will end, but I know how it will start.”
